Treatment of Depression is not Easy

A lot of people may overlook this fact, but the statistic remains that nearly twenty-six million people in our country are dealing with some sort of depression. Everyone on the planet has probably been depressed at some point or another. But these statistic people I just quoted spend the majority of their days facing depression. Depression is a frightening reality and can affect anyone. That’s why it’s vital to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. So here are some depression treatment facts. First you want to achieve remission of the depression. That means you have deleted all of your symptoms. The next step you want to achieve is holding onto that remission. Those are the goals of treating depression. Sounds pretty simple, but this is a lifelong battle for those who suffer from depression. Depression tends to recur if it is not properly treated and maintained. The fact of the matter is that everything is o.k. for a while but then when the medication runs out, or gets forgotten, or the patient thinks that they are cured and no longer need treatment, the depression can come back even harder and be more difficult to get rid of. That’s why it is important to maintain treatment and always be aware that depression is no laughing matter. According to one website, treatment for depression happens in three stages. The first stage’s goal is to relieve the symptoms. This treatment usually lasts six to eight weeks. The second section deals with sustaining that remission. This time frame is usually around four to five months. If the symptoms return during this time, it is called a relapse. The third stage is called the maintenance stage. The goal of this stage is to maintain treatment therapy in order to hold back a new episode of depression.
