PORTLAND Portland Mayor Sam Adams fired the citys police chief Wednesday, a day after the city agreed to pay $1.6 million to settle a lawsuit over the death of a mentally ill man in police custody. Adams said at a City Hall news conference the factors that went into his decision were cumulative but that he made up his mind Tuesday night and met with Chief Rosie Sizer on Wednesday morning.
